ONE Group’s CloudBuzz Division has successfully completed a strategic project to implement a Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution for the University of Haifa. As a result of this project, the university is now equipped to provide optimal and comprehensive support to students, researchers, and faculty, even in the event of data center failures or missile attacks.
The project’s primary objective was to enhance the university’s disaster recovery (DR) capabilities, prompted by increased security tensions which accelerated the need for such improvements. The selected solution is based on AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (EDR) technology, which allows for server replication and synchronization to the cloud and their activation when needed. This technology offers low Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO), and the ability to restore to a specific point in time. The solution enables the establishment of a flexible DR site without significant commitment, resulting in cost savings on monthly expenses. Additionally, the cloud environment facilitates the creation and execution of complex automations, significantly reducing recovery times.
The solution is implemented in the University of Haifa’s environment within the Israeli region of AWS, as part of the governmental Nimbus cloud tender. This implementation, led by CloudBuzz experts under the direction of Idan Shemesh and the University’s Computing and Information Systems Division headed by Muli Tzafrir, ensures long-term support and future scalability for the university, all while adhering to stringent information security standards.
Muli Tzafrir, CIO of the University of Haifa, stated: “The University of Haifa places great importance on ensuring the operational continuity of our teaching, research, and administrative systems. We are pleased to launch this strategic project, which includes a multi-layered DR array based on AWS’s EDR solution, built on the infrastructure of the governmental Nimbus project. This solution ensures our ability to handle physical threats such as those from the northern border, as well as events like fires we have experienced in the past or any other threat to the university’s computing facility. We appreciate the high proficiency of CloudBuzz by ONE’s team, and their professional support in designing, implementing and operating this project”.
Zvi Gilinski, Director of CloudBuzz Division by ONE, commented: “Given the regional events we have experienced over the past year, organizations in Israel are required to enhance their business continuity while maintaining resiliency, reliability, and rapid data recovery capabilities. The establishment of the Israeli AWS region has opened up a range of reliable and advanced options for us, enabling the promotion of business continuity in Israel to the forefront of technology in the coming years.”
